New Delhi: The Central Government has opened its doors to provide major relief from inflation to the poor and middle class families of the country. Expanding the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’, now under the ‘Free Ration Card Scheme’, the beneficiaries will not only be given free food grains but will also be given cash assistance of Rs 1000 every month. The government aims that by 2026 no poor family should face financial crisis or hunger.
BPL and Antyodaya card holders will get double benefit
The biggest benefit of this new scheme will be given to those families who have BPL or Antyodaya ration card. According to the scheme, now every ration card holding family will be given up to 35 kg of free grains in a month, which will include wheat, rice along with pulses and sugar. Apart from this, the government will transfer Rs 1000 every month directly to the beneficiary’s bank account (through DBT) to meet other household expenses.
Plan extended till 2026, priority given to women and elderly
The government has regularized this public welfare scheme till 2026. In this, priority will be given to those families whose annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh. Especially widows, disabled and single women have been prominently included in the scope of this scheme. Crores of beneficiaries in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh are going to directly benefit from this decision.
Linking to Aadhaar is mandatory, digital system will stop fraud
To make the scheme completely transparent, it has been linked to a digital platform. Now the distribution of ration will be done through biometric (POS machine), so that only the eligible person can get the benefit. People whose ration card is linked to Aadhaar will start getting this benefit. If your card is not linked or a new card is to be made, you can apply by visiting the official website of the Food Department or the nearest Common Service Center (CSC).
How to apply? Know the step-by-step process
The application process has been kept very simple. Eligible families can fill the form by visiting their nearest ration shop or e-Mitra center. For online application, registration can be done on the state food portal through mobile number and Aadhaar. Verification will be completed within 7 days of application and the beneficiary will be informed about the same through SMS.
