Varanasi, June 22 (HS). In the city of Shri Kashi Vishwanath, the Nath of Naths, Lord Jagannath fell ill due to excessive bathing (Jalabhishek) out of love for his devotees. Lord Jagannath will now symbolically rest for a fortnight and drink kadha and become healthy.
In the centuries-old tradition of the religious city of Kashi, Jalabhishek was organized in the Jagannath temple located at Assi on Saturday on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Jyeshtha. Early in the morning at around 05.15 am, the wooden idols of Lord Jagannath, brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra ji were taken to the roof of the temple. Here the idols were duly placed on the bathing altar located in the north-east of the roof and decorated.
After this, Chief Trustee Alok Shapuri and his family members started the Jalayatra by bathing the idol of the Lord with Gangajal in the presence of temple priest Pt. Radheshyam Pandey. After the Jalabhishek of the idols from 108 pots of Gangajal mixed with Panch Pallav, the devotees standing in queue bathed the Lord with Gangajal with their own hands. And offered sweets, fruits and flowers to the Lord and worshipped him as per the rituals. The Lord also kept bathing in the love and devotion of the devotees. This process will continue till 10 pm. After this, the idols of the Lord will be brought back to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Where the Lord will symbolically fall ill due to excessive bathing.
According to the temple priest, the Lord will not appear before the devotees for a fortnight. From Sunday, decoction will be offered to the Lord. When the Lord appears, Mangala Aarti, stuti, bhajans and Shri Vishnusahasranaam will be recited. After this, parwal juice will be given as naivedya at eight o'clock. After recovering after a fortnight, the Lord will appear before the devotees. On July 06, the Doli Yatra of Lord Jagannath will be taken out from the temple. The Doli Yatra will start from Assi with pomp and show and will depart for Durgakund, Nawabganj, Ram Mandir, Kashmiriganj, Khojwan, Shunkuldhara, Baijnatha, Kamchha to Pandit Beniram Bagh, Shapuri Bhawan. With this, the world famous Rath Yatra fair of Kashi will start from July 7 and will continue till July 9.
It is worth mentioning that devotees started gathering at the Jagannath temple in Assi from early morning to follow the centuries old tradition of Varanasi. Devotees bathed Lord Jagannath with Gangajal after creating a idol of Lord Jagannath with their own hands. It is believed that the Lord bathes so much in the love of his devotees that he falls ill.
