Lok Sabha Speaker constitutes JPC for Wakf (Amendment) Bill 2024, committee consists of 31 members

Joint Parliamentary Committee: On behalf of the central government, Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on Thursday (August 08). After a heated debate between the ruling and opposition parties in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister proposed to refer the Waqf Bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Now the Lok Sabha Speaker has constituted a 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee to discuss the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Which will have 21 members of Lok Sabha and 10 members of Rajya Sabha.

The 21 members of the Lok Sabha in the joint committee formed for this bill include Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey, Tejaswi Surya, Aparajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Dilip Saikia, Abhijit Gangopadhyayano, DK Aruna, Gaurav Gogoi, Imran Masood, Mohammad Javed, Mohibullah. Kalyan Banerjee, A. Raja, Krishna Alavaru, Dileshwar Kamat, Arvind Sawant, Suresh Gopinath, Naresh Ganapathy, Arun Bharti and Asaduddin Owaisi have been included.

Names of Rajya Sabha members will be announced soon

The names of the Rajya Sabha members joining this committee will be announced soon. The central government has sent the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The committee has been given time to submit its report by the last day of the first week of the next session.

The bill may be introduced in the winter session

This is the first time in the Narendra Modi government that a bill has been sent to the JPC. The government can present this bill in the Rajya Sabha during the winter session of Parliament. Because by then the strength of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha will increase significantly, meaning the government will not have any problem in getting the bill passed.
