Lok Sabha Elections: Till now Rs 593 crore seized in the form of illegal liquor, cash and other materials

Jaipur, 9 April (HS). Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha General Elections-2024 in Rajasthan, a total of more than Rs 593 crore worth of illegal cash, intoxicants (drugs), liquor, precious metals, freebies have been seized. ) etc. have been seized.

Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said that a total of Rs 593 crore worth of items, including seizure of items worth more than Rs 20 crore each, have been seized in 12 districts from March 16, 2024 till now by different enforcement agencies in the state. This seizure is much higher than the total seizures worth Rs 51.42 crore made during the 75-day period of code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Gupta said that at present, since the implementation of the code of conduct, about Rs 31.67 crore worth illegal cash along with drugs worth Rs 66.22 crore, illicit liquor worth more than Rs 33 crore and gold and silver worth Rs 35.42 crore, etc. have been seized. Precious metals have been seized. During this period, other materials worth more than Rs 420 crore and freebies worth approximately Rs 69 lakh have been seized.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, maximum seizures have been made in Udaipur district, where items worth approximately Rs 29.74 crore have been seized. Also, illegal items or cash worth about Rs 29.33 crore have been seized at various places during transportation in Pali district, about Rs 27.94 crore in Dausa and Rs 24.85 crore in Churu district. Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct on March 16, items worth more than Rs 20 crore have been seized in Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Nagaur, Dungarpur, Ganganagar and Barmer districts.

Gupta said that along with Rajasthan Police, central agencies like State Excise Department, Narcotics and Income Tax Department etc. are taking major action against illegal transportation of the above mentioned items. These departments and investigation and monitoring agencies are keeping a strict vigil across the state and action is being taken as per rules on receiving information or information about any suspicious case.
