Samastipur, 13 April (HS). Nomination for Khagaria Lok Sabha constituency has started in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. From there, Rajesh Verma of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) of NDA alliance has been made its candidate. The Grand Alliance has declared Sanjay Kumar of CPIM as its candidate. He is also the district secretary of the party.
This Lok Sabha constituency is surrounded by seven rivers Ganga, Kamala, Balan, Kosi, Budhi Gandak, Kali Kosi, Kareh and Bagmati. There are 6 assembly seats in this Lok Sabha constituency. These include Khagaria Sadar, Beldaur, Parbata, Alauli (Reserved) Hasanpur (Samastipur district) and Simri Bakhtiyarpur (Saharsa district). Of these, four out of six assembly seats are held by the Grand Alliance. Presently RJD is in possession of three assembly seats here: Hasanpur, Simri Bakhtiyarpur and Alauli (reserved).
There are JDU MLAs from two assembly constituencies, Parbatta and Beldaur. While there is a Congress MLA from Khagaria Sadar. Sanjay Kumar's father Yogendra Singh was MLA from Khagaria Sadar from 2000 to 2005. Sanjay Kumar's younger brother Ajay Kumar is the MLA from Vibhutipur in Samastipur district. He is also the leader of the legislative party in the assembly. At the same time, no political background of Rajesh Verma is being told and his candidature is no less than a surprise. This Lok Sabha seat came into existence in 1957. In 2019, Mehboob Ali Kaiser of Lok Janshakti Party was victorious from here and Son of Mala Mukesh Sahni was the main opponent.
Hasanpur assembly constituency in Samastipur district is represented by RJD supremo Lalu Prasad's elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav. While NDA is busy in publicity and public relations, the Grand Alliance does not seem to be doing public relations. The citizens of Hasanpur assembly constituency are waiting for their MLA. There is also a discussion in the area as to whose part will be locked in the EVM on 7th May. CPIM has contested elections from here thrice and is again staking its claim for the fourth time.
