During the upcoming Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, suspicious paid news and political advertisements published on various media platforms will be closely monitored by the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. Various media units under the committee were given information about the nuances of monitoring in the training organized in the meeting room of the Joint District Office. District Election Officer and Collector K. l. Chauhan described the role of MCMC as very important during the elections and gave instructions to discharge its responsibilities seriously.
The Collector said that during media monitoring, read the news published in newspapers carefully and seriously and in case of suspected paid news, report it to MCMC along with the material. Similarly, cases of fake news and violation of code of conduct also have to be monitored. Surveillance will remain for 24 hours. All media units should keep a close watch on their scheduled time.
In the training, Master Trainer Lalit Kumar gave detailed information regarding the concept, formation and functioning of MCMC, print media, electronic media, social media and FM radio monitoring. It was told that paid news has to be monitored from the day the candidates file their nominations. The social media unit will monitor paid news and political advertisements on the basis of the social accounts mentioned by the candidate in the nomination form. On the issue of suspected paid news, a notice will be issued to the concerned candidate by the Registration Officer of the parliamentary constituency. The candidate will have to reply within 48 hours of receiving the notice. If you disagree with the decision of the district level MCMC, the candidates can appeal to the state level MCMC within 48 hours. If the candidate does not respond to the notice within 48 hours, MCMC will take the final decision.
