Dehradun, 23 March (HS). Congress released the fourth list for Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Saturday. Names of 02 candidates from Uttarakhand have been declared in this list. Prakash Joshi from Nainital and Virendra Rawat from Haridwar have been made candidates.

In the second list, Congress had fielded its candidates on three out of total 5 Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand. After a long wait, the Congress leadership on Saturday night has given ticket to Virendra Rawat, son of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, from Haridwar Lok Sabha seat of Uttarakhand and Prakash Joshi from Nainital Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seat. With this, Congress has declared candidates on all five seats in the state.

Congress had earlier announced candidates for three out of five seats in Uttarakhand. Congress has placed its bet on Garhwal seat on two-time MLA and former state president Ganesh Godiyal, while the party has given ticket to Jot Singh Gunsola, who was elected MLA from Mussoorie assembly seat in 2002 and 2007. This time too Pradeep Tamta has been given ticket on the reserved Almora seat. Tamta MP was elected from this seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, whereas he was defeated twice in the 2014 and 2019 elections.

Now on Haridwar seat, Virendra Rawat, son of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, will contest against former BJP Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. There will be a contest between two Rawats on Haridwar Lok Sabha seat. Prakash Joshi will face Union Minister of State Ajay Bhatt from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seat.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already declared its candidates on all five Lok Sabha seats in the state and has taken lead over Congress and is accelerating the election campaign. Congress's factionalism and weak organization in front of BJP's huge organization is being seen as a big challenge in the Lok Sabha elections. Harish Rawat is one of the powerful leaders of the state but he had to face defeat in the last several elections. In such a situation, it is not looking so easy for Congress to stop BJP's victory chariot.
