According to the instructions issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed in the respective cities on the day of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Apart from this, some state governments have already declared a public holiday on the day of voting. In the first phase, there will be a holiday in banks on April 19 in Chennai, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Nagpur and Shillong.
Apart from these states, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands also have general elections in the first phase. April 19 has been declared a public holiday in Uttarakhand on polling day.
