What is cesarean delivery: A mother endures the most pain to give birth to a child. In which women experience unbearable pain during normal delivery. Many times, if there is any complication, doctors recommend cesarean section.

Let us tell you that earlier this option was chosen only when there was any danger to the mother or the child, but now the situation has changed. Now women themselves are choosing the option of cesarean operation to avoid the pain of normal delivery.

A research by IIT Madras has found that the number of women undergoing cesarean operation on their own will is increasing rapidly. In this report we will know why women are opting for cesarean section and why they are afraid of normal delivery.

The study was conducted by researchers from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras. It is noteworthy that cesarean delivery is a type of surgery in which an incision is made on the mother's abdomen to remove the child from the mother's womb.

This procedure proves to be life saving in case of any complications, but now more and more women are choosing this option to avoid the pain of normal delivery.

Increase in cesarean delivery rates – The prevalence of C-section (cesarean section) in India has increased from 17.2 percent to 21.5 percent in the five years to 2021. In the private sector, the numbers are 43.1 per cent (2016) and 49.7 per cent (2021), meaning one in two deliveries in the private sector is by cesarean section. Several factors may be responsible for this increase.

Cesareans are higher in cities – Researchers found that better educated women living in urban areas were more likely to deliver by C-section, suggesting that greater autonomy and better access to health facilities may have reduced the prevalence of C-sections. This means that where women are self-reliant and facilities are available, women are opting for C-section.

Private hospitals perform more cesareans – Women giving birth in private health facilities in India were four times more likely to have a caesarean section in the study period between 2016-2021.

In Chhattisgarh, women were ten times more likely to deliver by cesarean section in a private hospital, while in Tamil Nadu, the odds were three times higher. Researchers said this may be due to lack of adequate infrastructure in public health facilities.

Both doctors and experts consider vaginal delivery to be the best. Because, recovery after delivery is very fast and the woman does not have to suffer much pain, whereas it takes a lot of time to recover completely after cesarean section.
