Liver of 6-day-old brain-dead girl from Surat reached Mumbai by train | News India

Mumbai: A baby girl was born to a couple named Mayur and Manisha Thummar, living in Sukhashanti Society of Surat. The daughter was born on Monday and on Friday the team of doctors declared her brain dead. Therefore, the couple showed generosity by donating their daughter's organs for these six days. It is noteworthy that the heart of this six-day old daughter had come from Surat to Mumbai by train. Special arrangements were also made for him. Five people have got a new life by donating the girl's liver, both kidneys and both eyes.

Mayur Thummar works as a plumbing laborer in Surat. A baby girl was born through normal delivery at Manisha Thummar's house at 8.30 pm on 23 September. From that hospital, the girl was immediately admitted to the NICU department of Diamond Hospital, Surat for treatment. However, after treatment, the girl was declared brain dead on September 27. After being declared brain dead, the administrator of Diamond Hospital, Dr. Haresh Pagda contacted Vipul Thakia of organ donation organization Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation Trust. After convincing the family, the couple and family members agreed to donate the organs.

With the consent of the family, Soto organization of Gujarat government was contacted and through Soto Gujarat, the liver was donated to Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai, both kidneys to Ahmedabad IKDRC and both eyes to Lokdrishti Eye Bank, Surat. Green corridor from Diamond Hospital to Surat Railway Station and Green Corridor from Surat to Ahmedabad were arranged with security by Gujarat Police within few minutes. Special support was given by the Railway Authority and Police Department for immediate delivery of Mumbai Liver. It is noteworthy that earlier organ donation of 100 hour old child and organ donation of 120 hour old child was also done through Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation. This third organ donation at an early age in India was possible due to the joint efforts of the hospital and Jeevandeep Organ Donation.

Regarding this organ donation, Mayur Thummar told 'Gujarat Samachar' that 'We come from a normal family. By taking this decision we have become helpful to the society and nothing else. It is important for us that the daughter will not be there but her organs have given life to others.
