Liquor consumption worth Rs 14 crore in Greater Noida, country liquor remained the first choice

Especially in Greater Noida, liquor worth Rs 14 crore was sold on New Year’s Eve.

Record breaking alcohol consumption in Greater Noida

The people of Greater Noida left no stone unturned in celebrating the New Year this time. According to the District Excise Department, on December 31, 2023, revenue of Rs 14 crore was generated from the sale of liquor in Greater Noida. This figure is much higher than last year, when the revenue from liquor sales on December 31, 2022 was Rs 11 crore.

District Excise Officer Subodh Srivastava said that various types of liquor were consumed in 24 hours on New Year’s Eve:

  • English Wine: 1.17 lakh liters
  • Country Liquor: 1.40 lakh liters
  • Beer: 82,000 liters

Highest demand for country liquor

This time the demand for country liquor was highest. Beer sales were relatively low due to cold weather. At the same time, the department received the highest revenue from English liquor.

License for party events

On December 31, the Excise Department issued 125 temporary bar licenses to streamline party events. Due to this the department earned additional Rs 13.75 lakh.

Police took major action

Police took strict action against those who ignored the rules during New Year celebrations.

  • Drunk driving: Action against 339 people
  • Drinking alcohol in public on roadside: challan of 653 people
  • Challan under Motor Vehicles Act: on 8,610 vehicles
  • Seized vehicles: 28

The police ensured that no major untoward incident took place during the celebrations. However, many people were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to strict action.

Revenue increased compared to last year

A significant increase in alcohol consumption was recorded in the New Year celebrations of 2023 compared to 2022. While in 2022 there were sales of Rs 11 crore, in 2023 this figure reached Rs 14 crore.
