The man appealed against the woman's complaint in the High Court, where he said that if the words spoken hurt the dignity of a woman, then action can be taken under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code, and not on social media posts or writing an email. On this, the court said in relation to Section 509 of the IPC that writing anything against the dignity of a woman is a legal offense, whether it is social media or mail.
