In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday, a unanimous proposal to give full statehood status to Jammu and Kashmir was passed. It said that granting full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir would be the beginning of a process through which the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir could be restored and their identity protected.

It is noteworthy that the first session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held on November 4. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has advised the Lieutenant Governor to call the Assembly and address it. At present, LG has ordered to appoint Mubarik Gul as Protem Speaker till the appointment of the Speaker. Now as Protem Speaker, Mubarik Gul will administer oath to all the MLAs on October 21.
