Mumbai: The Bar Association of Thane District Court has issued a direction that no person from the association shall represent Vishal Gawali and his wife Sakshi, accused in the case of rape and subsequent brutal murder of a 12-year-old girl. ,
On December 23, Gawli, with the help of his wife, kidnapped a girl from Chakkinaka area of Kalyan and sexually assaulted her and later killed her and dumped the body at Bapgaon on Padgha Road in Kalyan.
A notice asking lawyers not to defend the couple in court has been put up in the barroom, an association official said.
The couple were arrested on December 25 and booked under the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act for murder, rape and kidnapping with intent to destroy evidence, among other crimes.
Police said that Vishal Gawli, who worked in Manpada area of Dombivali, had eight previous crimes registered against him. The couple has been remanded till January 2.
Meanwhile, according to the police officer, the investigation team is interrogating the couple about their intention to commit murder by creating a crime scene.
