Suddenly a hill on the Dharchula-Tawaghat National Highway in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand cracked without any rain, due to which the traffic on the highway came to a complete halt. mountain cracking incident

This incident happened near Rongti drain on Dharchula-Tawaghat highway at around 10 am on Saturday morning. Despite no rain, the hill suddenly collapsed. The fortunate thing is that there was no vehicle or person present on the road at the time of the incident, due to which there was no loss of life or property.

Status of passengers and vehicles

Many vehicles are stuck on both sides of the highway due to landslides. Due to the closure of the route, passengers are facing a lot of problems. People seem helpless to reach their destination as alternative routes are not available.

efforts to open the road

Pithoragarh District Magistrate (DM) Vinod Goswami said that the work of opening the road is going on war footing. He said that the debris is being removed with the help of JCB and other heavy machinery. Due to the large amount of fallen debris, it may take time to completely clear the road.

promptness of officials

After getting information about the incident, SDM Manjeet Singh reached the spot and took stock of the situation. He ordered BRO (Border Road Organization) officials to open the route as soon as possible. BRO teams have reached the spot and are working quickly so that the traffic can be restored.

Problem of mountain cracking in Uttarakhand

Incidents of mountain cracking have become common in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. Such incidents are seen more often during monsoon, but the collapse of the mountain without rain is a matter of concern. National Highway closed due to landslide:

  1. Traffic gets jammed.
  2. Passengers have to wait for a long time.
  3. The supply of essential services is disrupted.

DM’s statement

DM Vinod Goswami said, “The National Highway near Tawaghat has been closed due to massive landslide on Saturday morning. BRO teams are working to clear the road. Hopefully the traffic will be restored soon.”

conclusion

This incident in Pithoragarh once again highlights the seriousness of landslides in this area. People traveling in mountainous areas should always be alert about such dangers. Due to the activeness of the administration and BRO, the route is expected to be opened soon, but during this time the passengers will have to remain patient.
