Uttarkashi, 03 September (HS). Amidst the continuous rain in Uttarkashi since 5:30 pm, once again a massive landslide occurred on Tuesday late evening from the hill above Gufiara-Jal Sansthan Colony near Varunavat mountain of Uttarkashi. However, there is no news of any damage in the populated area below.
District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht said that all the buildings in the danger zone have been evacuated. All the people have been shifted to safe Dharamshalas. The District Magistrate has put BRO, NDRF, SDRF, Police on alert mode.
It is worth noting that due to heavy rains since 5:30 pm on Tuesday, there has been sound of stones falling intermittently in the landslide area above Gufiara-Jal Sansthan Colony below the foothills of Varunavat mountain. Due to which people have come out of their homes in the rain on Collectorate Colony, Bhatwadi Taxi Stand Road.
Earlier, there was a mild landslide from the landslide area, but at 8:00 a.m., the debris stuck in the landslide fell down and a loud sound was heard. Meanwhile, the District Disaster Operations Center is keeping a close watch on the landslide area with focus from Janssons Electronics.
