These days, the phase of student demonstrations and movements is continuously increasing in the political and administrative corridors of Bihar. The latest case has come to light from Lakhisarai district, where tremendous violence and tension was witnessed during the protest march taken out by various opposition parties and student organizations. A heated clash broke out between the protesters and the security forces who were moving towards the Collectorate through the prescribed route. The situation went completely out of control when the angry mob started pelting stones at the police force. To control the situation, the police finally had to use force and resort to lathi charge, which led to a stampede at the spot.
Students came out carrying tricolor, tension increased at Collectorate gate
According to the information received, workers of various student organizations and political parties had gathered at the KRK High School grounds of the city holding the tricolor flag in their hands. As per the fixed plan, this march proceeded from the main road via New Market towards the Collectorate turn (Jamui turn). The local administration and police force were already ready near the Collectorate gate to maintain law and order. When the police tried to stop the protesters at the gate citing security reasons, the atmosphere suddenly became heated and a heated argument broke out between the two sides.
Area shaken by stone pelting and vandalism, vehicles damaged
Angered by being stopped by the police, some anti-social elements in the crowd suddenly started pelting bricks and stones at the security forces. Due to this sudden stone pelting, an atmosphere of chaos was created there and the glasses of many private and government vehicles parked on the roadside were shattered. Seeing the situation getting out of hand, the police took a tough stand and started lathicharge to disperse the angry crowd. During this period, some policemen and women personnel are also reported to have suffered minor injuries. During this period, the administration repeatedly appealed to maintain peace and not take the law into one’s hands.
Strict administrative conditions and strict security arrangements
Certain guidelines and conditions had already been set by the district administration for this protest march. As per the orders of the Sub-Divisional Officer, the march was to be limited to the fixed route only and entry inside the premises was completely restricted. However, after the violation of fixed rules and sudden tension, the police administration is now busy in identifying the miscreants involved in the entire incident. Heavy police force has been deployed to maintain peace and law and order in the area, and the situation is being continuously monitored.
