Actress Krishna Mukherjee recently talked about her tough times while working on Dangal TV's show Shubh Shagun. He accused producer Kundan Singh of locking the team on the sets and not paying them properly. In an interview with Indianexpress.com, Krishna described how he and other actors were treated. He also mentioned another incident where Kundan had allegedly locked another actor on the Balaji sets.
Krishna clarified that he was personally locked in the make-up room, not by Kundan, but by the production staff. She said she had no need to lie and that many other people could support her story. He also talked about filing a complaint about this. Krishna said, “I never said that he locked me in the makeup room, it was the production people. He is just making up stories because he has nothing to say right now. Also by mistake Ellie said that I was shooting in Madh. I used to shoot at the famous studio in Goregaon and all this happened there. I have a lot of people who can come forward and speak on this. I have also lodged an FIR there. I don't have to lie about anything.”
The actress said that initially Kundan seemed nice, but when she filed a complaint in October, she started getting suspicious. His attitude changed and he started avoiding looking at her. “Kundan is a very smart boy. They fooled us by calling us beta-beta, but I realized in October itself when I lodged the FIR that this money would not come. His behavior had changed, the way he looked at me was very different. Even Swati Thanawala from the production house had emailed me that she would take the responsibility and I should resume shooting. He ensured that the two people who had locked me in the room, Prabhat and Sameer Kazi, did not come back to our set again. Prabhat was the EP of the show and Sameer was the HOP of the show. When he shut me down, he said that Kundan had done this once on Balaji sets when he was an EP or HOP, but it is impossible for him to do something like this on Balaji sets. The environment was really bad, every time we had to fight for our pay cheque.”
Continuing her story, Krishna Mukherjee shared that she was locked up on the sets twice, and Kundan Singh made a sexist comment to her. She said, “When they locked me, Pearl Grey's assistant Asma held my hand and said that I will not shoot, but she said, 'How will I shoot like this, change clothes and shoot.' It will not go from here. (How will she not shoot? Change your clothes and shoot, otherwise you will not leave here.') But Asma knocked me down, and I was very scared because they kept chasing me. At that time I did not know that Kundan's room was just below mine. He was there and knew everything. He was the one who asked them to do this. They locked me twice, once Shahzada Dhami opened the door for me. The second time Asma saved me, they threatened me saying that they would see how my car left the premises. They are like proper goondas (goons). They were banging on my door so hard that I called the police. The girl who helped me change my clothes took me to the washroom. When I returned and tried to open the door, he had already locked me. I had already worked 12 hours a day and didn't want to do extra work because I didn't get paid. The prince had packed his things by then, and was equally angry because he was not getting paid. I was getting married so I told Kundan that I needed money. That night when I left, Shehzada was coming down the stairs, at that time Kundan, Sameer and Prabhat were standing there and Kundan said to me, 'She is a girl, that's why she is doing all this and she got saved. (Just because you are a girl you are doing this and getting away with it).”
