Kolkata, 12 October (Hindustan Reporter). Two more junior doctors joined the ongoing hunger strike at Esplanade after midnight on Friday against the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital two months ago. A total of eight doctors are now on fast in the ongoing protest against this incident.
One of the newly joined doctors is Parichay Panda, who works in the ear, nose and throat department of Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan. This establishment is associated with Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. The second doctor is Alolika Ghorui, who is posted in the surgery department of Kolkata National Medical College and Hospital.
After the joining of Parichay Panda and Alolika Ghorui, the number of doctors sitting on hunger strike has increased to eight. The hunger strike began on October 5, when six doctors—Tanya Panja, Snehada Hazra, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra, Anushtup Mukhopadhyay, Arnab Mukhopadhyay and Pulastya Acharya—began the fast to press for their demands.
After this, on the evening of October 6, Dr. Aniket Mahato of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital also joined the strike, but due to his ill health, he had to be admitted to the ICU on Thursday night, due to which the number of hunger strikers reduced to six. . Now with the addition of Parichay Panda and Alolika Ghorui, this number has again become eight.
