Kolkata Rape Murder Case: There is outrage in the whole country after the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. In such a situation, Padma award winning doctors have united and raised their voice. 71 Padma award winners have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressing concern over this incident. They have also demanded a separate law for the safety of doctors.

Demand for a separate law for the protection of health workers

The doctors have written in the letter that, 'Strict steps need to be taken to stop such atrocities. Violence against women and health workers should be stopped immediately. A government bill is ready to stop violence/atrocities against doctors and health workers but has not yet been introduced in Parliament. We urge that an ordinance be made immediately and the bill be passed. So that health workers can work fearlessly.'

The doctors who signed the letter include former AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, former ICMR chief Balram Bhargava, SK Sarin, Gangaram Trust Society president D. S. Rana, Arvind Lal, Medanta chairman Naresh Trehan, Fortis chairman Ashok Seth, Mahesh Verma, Yash Gulati, Purushottam Lal and other well-known doctors.
