Kolkata: Junior doctors demanding justice and protection in the rape and murder cases of female trainee doctors of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital have announced to continue their strike till all their five demands are met by the government.
The doctors have written a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state on this issue and demanded to convene an immediate meeting to improve the health system and discuss the problems related to the dangerous condition of the hospital. The doctors have given an ultimatum to the Mamata government to convene an immediate meeting to resolve the dispute. In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state, the doctors said, “In the meeting held on Monday, we were assured of forming a special task force under your leadership to discuss the issues.” We would like to communicate with you and all the members of the task force today.
Government claims- doctors' demands have been accepted
There has been no immediate response from the Bengal government regarding the letter. However, in the afternoon, TMC MP and party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee wrote on social media that the state government has accepted most of the demands of the doctors, so the doctors should agree to end the strike in good faith. We have agreed on the issue of safety of doctors from day one and are supporting their concerns. Most of their demands are fair and logical. The work of establishing security system and installing CCTV in hospitals will be completed within 14 days. The government has also transferred police commissioners and health service officers.
