There is outrage across the country over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Protests are being held. People protesting outside Kolkata RG Medical Hospital were attacked. Not only were the doctors beaten up but the hospital was also vandalized. The central government has become strict regarding this incident. Guidelines have been issued by the central government.

What instructions did the central government give?

The central government issued guidelines to health institutions saying that if there is an attack or violence on doctors, the institutions will have to register an FIR against the concerned person within 6 hours. In this regard, the Health Ministry has sent a memo to all health institutions. According to the memorandum, in case of assault or any kind of violence with a health care worker deployed on duty, it will be the responsibility of the head of the hospital or institution to register an FIR within 6 hours of the incident.

The High Court also responded

It is worth noting that on Wednesday some people entered the hospital premises and attacked the medical college by making RG. The High Court is also showing a strict attitude in this matter. The court expressed displeasure over the entire incident and said that the state system has completely failed in this matter. The court advised that it would be better if the hospital is closed and the patients present in the hospital are shifted to another hospital. The court said how 7000 people reached there on foot.

Resident doctors on strike across the country

Doctors are protesting in hospitals across the country over the Kolkata case. Resident doctors will continue their indefinite strike against the incident of gang rape and murder of a junior female resident doctor. On Friday, all medical services except OPD, routine surgery and emergency were affected in all government hospitals of Delhi including AIIMS, Safdarjung, RML, Loknayak, GB Pant. Doctors went on strike in cities like Patna, Lucknow, Bhopal etc.
