On 9 August, a junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, after which junior doctors have been protesting demanding justice for the victim. On Saturday, state CM Mamata Banerjee reached the protest site. As soon as Mamata Banerjee came on the stage of the protest, slogans of 'Give justice to the junior doctor', 'We want justice' started echoing everywhere.
CM Banerjee requested the agitators to calm down. She said, “If you tell me what you want, I will be happy. I support your movement, I am also a part of the student movement.”
CM Mamata said, I myself have come forward from the student movement, I have also struggled a lot in my life, I understand your struggle. I am not worried about my situation. It rained the whole night yesterday, you sat here in protest, I am worried the whole night, I am also very upset with this incident, the way you are sitting here, I am suffering mental pain. It has been 33 to 34 days since the Kolkata rape murder case, about which the CM said, I too have not slept the whole night for 33-34 days, when you are on the road, I also have to stay awake like a watchman.
