Kolkata Airport completes 100 years, Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu releases centenary logo

Kolkata, 13 December (HS). Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu on Friday released the logo of the centenary celebrations of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. This is a historic moment of 100 years of service of the airport, which is an important chapter in the history of Indian aviation. This airport is a magnificent construction of the pre-independence era. It symbolizes the progress and heritage of India’s civil aviation sector.

Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary Vumlunmang Vulnam, Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Vipin Kumar and other senior officials were present at the event.

Releasing the centenary logo, Minister Naidu said, “This is a proud moment for all of us, where we take forward the legacy of our country and take inspiration for future achievements. Kolkata Airport has proved to be a historic milestone for Bengal and the country by serving crores of passengers. Our Prime Minister always says, ‘Development is also heritage.’ It is indeed a proud moment.”

He also said that in the last ten years, there has been tremendous progress, especially in the civil aviation sector, in expansion of airports, expansion of passenger capacity, growth of aircraft fleets and cargo operations. Today we are ranked third in the world in the field of domestic aviation and now our aim is to take it forward and achieve the first position.”

Udan scheme described as revolutionary

Praising the UDAN scheme, the Minister said, “In the last eight years, we have started more than 600 flights, providing the benefit of affordable air services to crores of people. The dream of ‘from slippers to airplane’ has come true.” He said that as Kolkata Airport completes 100 years, it is a source of inspiration and pride for the country.

He said that Kolkata Airport has served in many historical periods of the country like development after independence and economic liberalization (LPG reform). Major changes have taken place in the airport sector under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Kolkata Airport has received special attention over the last five years for capacity enhancement, additional services and world-class infrastructure.

The Minister announced the launch of several new initiatives as part of the centenary celebrations. This includes the release of commemorative postage stamps and coins to commemorate 100 years of the airport, the release of an art book showcasing India’s cultural heritage and three month-long celebrations. The event will see the participation of the Airports Authority of India along with the people of Kolkata and Bengal.

Additionally, a special ‘Udan Yatri Café’ will be started for passengers under the UDAN scheme at Kolkata airport. The café will provide quality food at affordable rates, further enhancing the passenger experience.

Congratulating the Airports Authority of India at the end of the program, the Minister said that the civil aviation sector is playing an important role in economic development and employment generation. Expressed confidence of achieving even greater achievements in the coming five years with the leadership and dedicated team of the Prime Minister.
