Kohli violated IPL code of conduct, fined 50 percent of match fee

New Delhi, 22 April (HS). Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli has been fined 50 percent of his match fee for violating the IPL code of conduct during the match played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.

“Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsman Virat Kohli has been charged for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their match during the 36th match of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata,” the IPL said in a statement on Monday. A penalty of 50 percent of the fees has been imposed.”

The statement further said, “Kohli has committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He pleaded guilty and accepted the match referee's sanction. “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Actually, during the match, Harshit Rana's high full toss ball hit Kohli's bat and went back into Rana's hands, the umpire went to the third umpire to check whether the ball was above the waist, the third umpire declared the ball valid. Diya and Kohli were out, while Kohli felt that the ball was a no ball and he had argued with the umpires regarding this. Kohli had scored 18 runs in seven balls in the match. RCB team lost this match by 1 run.
