DINK What is couple?
Monica Sharma explains that DINK stands for Dual Income, No Children, Drinking Couples are couples where both partners have employment and a source of income, but choose not to have children. The term gained popularity in the mid-20th century, and especially in the 21st century, as women gained more education and began to gain a foothold in the workforce. This dual income facility changed the attitude of couples towards parenthood.
DINK Why is the couple trending?
This belief changed the basic structure of the society as well as the structure of the family. Where couples consider having children soon after marriage to increase their family. Following are some of the main reasons behind the increasing trend of living without children.
Financial Responsibility: Raising children is a huge financial responsibility. Not all DINK couples have high incomes. Many lower middle class and low income DINK couples struggle to survive. After the birth of such children, the expenses for their upbringing and education become a financial burden on them. At the same time, high-income couples prefer vacations, travel, and luxury lifestyle rather than spending time and money on raising children. Additionally, they may also prioritize long-term financial stability.
career: Nowadays both men and women are very ambitious and focus more on career success. They are less willing to make time for parenting needs and this has an adverse effect on their career development.
Choice of lifestyle: There is little freedom in choosing to live a life dedicated to child rearing. In contrast, DINK couples prefer the freedom to live their lives the way they want and spend more time visiting new places, enjoying the lifestyle they want, rather than being tied down by parental responsibilities. They want to spend their time and money on their personal care.
Medical Conditions: Some DINK couples do not follow traditional family arrangements. They are happier with each other and pursue their hobbies. Some of these couples have medical conditions that make pregnancy risky and prioritize their health before becoming parents.
