The weather is changing rapidly in the country. At some places it is raining heavily and at other places the severe cold is making people shiver. The effect of snowfall in the hilly areas is also visible in the plains. With the drop in temperature, cold wave alert has been issued in many states. Low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal: Alert of heavy rain
Today a low pressure area is formed in the south-west of the Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic circulation associated with it extends to mid-tropospheric levels.
Affected areas:
- This system may move towards Tamil Nadu coast in the next 2 days.
- Due to this, there may be heavy to very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on 18-19 December.
- Rain is expected in Puducherry between 17-20 December.
- There will be clouds in Kerala during 17-21 December.
- There is a possibility of light to moderate rain, thunder and lightning in Odisha on December 19-20.
- Strong winds may also blow in these states during this period.
Cold wave alert: Severe cold in these states
Cold wave and severe cold wave conditions will persist over North-West India for the next 5-7 days.
States with cold wave warning:
- Punjab
- Himachal Pradesh
- Haryana
- Rajasthan
- Madhya Pradesh
Dense fog is seen in some areas of Haryana, where visibility has been recorded at 50 to 200 meters.
Minus temperature in hilly areas
- The minimum temperature has reached minus in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.
- Temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were recorded between 0 to 6 degrees Celsius.
- Adampur Airport area of Punjab recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 1 degree Celsius.
Temperature fluctuations:
- Minimum temperatures in Chhattisgarh and Odisha have dropped by 1-2 degrees Celsius.
- Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh have recorded an increase of 1-2 degrees Celsius.
- Minimum temperatures are below normal in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Gujarat.
Cold wave forecast: When and where will it be cold?
- Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Rajasthan: Cold wave between 17-23 December.
- Haryana and Chandigarh: Cold wave between 17-22 December.
- Madhya Pradesh and Telangana: Cold wave on 18 December.
- Himachal Pradesh: Cold wave on 22-23 December.
- Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh: Dense fog during late night and morning hours till December 18.
- Assam and Meghalaya: The effect of cold will increase.
Delhi-NCR weather update
The minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR has increased by 1 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.
Temperature condition:
- Maximum Temperature: 20 to 24 degrees Celsius
- Minimum temperature: 5 to 8 degrees Celsius
- The minimum temperature remained 1 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal.
Dense fog was recorded at Safdarjung Airport. However, the sky will remain clear during the day and wind speed may increase.
