Odisha: Race for new CM After winning 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha assembly elections, BJP has started the process of choosing the Chief Minister. State and central BJP leaders have started discussions in Delhi to discuss the new Chief Minister. However, there are also reports that the name of a Gujarat cadre IAS officer is leading in the race for the Chief Minister. Murmu, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Narendra Modi served two terms as Gujarat chief minister, Girish Murmu served as general secretary. He was joint secretary of the Home Department when Amit Shah was the Home Minister. To get the support of the tribals, the BJP may make Murmu the chief minister of Odisha.
