There is no provision for surrender or cancellation of Aadhaar card. But Aadhar card can be locked for security. After locking, no one else will be able to access your Aadhaar data. Another way is that the family should keep the Aadhaar card of the deceased safe so that it does not fall into the hands of others and is not misused.
how to lock aadhar card
First of all you should visit the official website of UIDAI. https://uidai.gov.in/ will go on. After this click on My Aadhaar option.
Go to Aadhaar Services in My Aadhaar, you will see the option 'Lock/Unlock Biometrics'.
Then a new page will open. To login into it, you will have to enter 12 digit Aadhaar number and captcha code. Then OTP will come.
After entering this OTP you will see the option to lock/unlock the biometric data. You have to select the option you want to lock or unlock.
What happens to election card, PAN and passport?
Unlike Aadhaar card, there is no provision for cancellation of passport after one's death. After the expiry of the period, its validity automatically gets cancelled. So you can cancel the election card of someone after his death. For this you will have to go to the election office and fill Form-7. After this the card will be cancelled. Death certificate of the deceased is required to cancel the voter ID card. Therefore there is a provision to surrender PAN card. For this, the family members of the deceased will have to contact the Income Tax Department.
