KKR won the IPL title for the third time by defeating SRH by 8 wickets in the final

Venkatesh Iyer's unbeaten half-century followed by a brilliant performance by the bowlers helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in a one-sided final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 here on Sunday to win the title

Under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, KKR won the IPL trophy in 2012 and 2014. Now Guru Gambhir, as a skilled strategist, got KKR the third trophy. Thus KKR became the third team to win three IPL titles after Chennai Super Kings i.e. CSK (five) and Mumbai Indians (five).

Apart from Gautam Gambhir, head coach Chandrakant Pandit played an important role in winning this title, who knows how to win Ranji Trophy. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who scored the highest score of the season (287 runs for three wickets), lost in the final and after winning the toss and batting first, collapsed for just 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

This was also the lowest score in an IPL final. KKR, which dominated from the beginning of this season, achieved this score by scoring 114 runs for two wickets in 10.3 overs with the help of Venkatesh Iyer (52 not out) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39). Venkatesh Iyer hit four fours and three sixes in 26 balls while Gurbaz hit five fours and two sixes in 32 balls. Gurbaz also took three brilliant catches behind the stumps.

This was the second final as captain for Shreyas Iyer, who scored an unbeaten 6 off three balls. KKR's bowlers were the heroes of their victory, Mitchell Starc took two wickets for 14 runs in three overs and Andre Russell took three wickets for 19 runs in 2.3 overs. Harshit Rana took two wickets for 24 runs with one maiden in four overs.

No batsman of Sunrisers Hyderabad could stand in front of KKR's superb bowling. Sunrisers Hyderabad had a bad start and lost the wickets of their openers Abhishek Sharma (02) and Travis Head (0) in the first two overs, due to which the score became six runs for two wickets after two overs.

In the very first over, Starc uprooted Abhishek's off stump with a superb good length delivery, while in the next over, Vaibhav Arora's delivery took the edge of the bat and fell into the hands of wicketkeeper Rehmanullah Gurbaz. Head has been out on zero three times in the last four matches. Rahul Tripathi (09) also returned to the pavilion after being caught by Ramandeep Singh off Starc's delivery. By the end of the powerplay, Sunrisers Hyderabad's score was 40 runs for three wickets.

Harshit Rana took the wicket of Nitish Reddy (13) and Russell took the wicket of Aiden Markram (20). Heinrich Klaasen (17 balls, 16 runs) was dismissed by Rana, who expected Sunrisers Hyderabad to play a little more aggressively. After this, Sunrisers Hyderabad's hopes of winning the second title after 2016 were dashed. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost five wickets for 62 runs. After this, there was no hope left and captain Pat Cummins was the top scorer of the team with 24 runs.
