New Delhi, 19 February (HS). Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for England fast bowler Gus Atkinson for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Chameera will join KKR at a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh. The Sri Lankan fast bowler, known for his pace, swing and seam movement, was a part of Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 and 2021 IPL seasons respectively. He represented Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 season, where he took nine wickets in 12 matches.
England fast bowler Atkinson, 26, was due to play in the IPL for the first time but has now pulled out of the tournament, with the ECB managing his schedule after a long winter. Atkinson played three matches for England in the World Cup in India, then traveled to the Caribbean for the white-ball tour in December and has since returned to India for England's ongoing Test series.
The 2024 edition of the IPL is likely to be played between March 22 and late May, with the final schedule to be announced after the Election Commission finalizes the voting dates for India's general elections.
