Chandigarh, August 27 (HS). Kiran Chaudhary, who left Congress and joined BJP, was declared elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Haryana. On Tuesday, Election Officer Saket Kumar handed over the certificate of Rajya Sabha membership to her.
BJP had declared Kiran Chaudhary as the party's candidate for the Haryana Rajya Sabha elections on 20 August. After this, on 21 August, Kiran filed her nomination in the presence of Chief Minister Naib Saini. In this election, no candidate was fielded by Congress and other opposition parties. Due to this, Kiran Chaudhary's path to Rajya Sabha was paved unopposed. After the completion of the stipulated time on the last day of withdrawal of nomination in the election, Kiran Chaudhary was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha. After this, there will be no elections here.
This Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after Congress MP Deepender Hooda went to the Lok Sabha. Before Kiran Chaudhary, BJP's Rajya Sabha MPs from Haryana are Krishan Lal Panwar, Subhash Barala and Ramchandra Jangra. Kartikeya Sharma was elected as an independent candidate with the support of BJP. Now with Kiran Chaudhary going to Rajya Sabha, the number of BJP MPs there has increased to five. Kiran Chaudhary's term will last till April 2026. On being elected to the Rajya Sabha, Kiran Chaudhary expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Naib Saini as well as JJP and Haryana Lokhit Party MLAs who supported her and said that she is fully aware of the issues of Haryana. She will raise the issues of Haryana in the Rajya Sabha.
