Ranchi, March 6 (HS). The hearing of the PIL filed by Santosh Kumar Soni in the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday, objecting to the closure of the Kharkai Dam Project of Seraikela by the state government after spending more than six thousand crores on it, was held on Wednesday. The Secretary of the Land Revenue Department appeared in the High Court in the case. He gave information regarding land acquisition for Kharkai Dam Project.
The court asked him to file an affidavit and tell how much land is still left to be acquired for this project and how much money is left with him for this. The Superintending Engineer of the Water Resources Department told the court that due to the opposition of local villagers on land acquisition, there is a hindrance in completing this project.
On this, the court said orally that a solution should be found by working together. Rs 6100 crore has been spent for this project. After this much amount has been spent it should not be stopped in half. The court has scheduled the next hearing of the case for March 20.
In the earlier hearing, the court had asked the state government that after spending more than Rs. six thousand crores, why was the Kharkai Dam project closed by writing a letter in the year 2020?
It is noteworthy that in the year 1978, a tripartite agreement was signed between the governments of unified Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal. Under this, Kharkai Dam project was being done but in the year 2020, the state government stopped this project without any reason.
