New Delhi, July 15 (HS). The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the progress of sowing area coverage under Kharif crops till July 15. According to this, sowing of Kharif crops has crossed 575 lakh hectares. Pulses were cultivated in about 62.32 lakh hectares this year as compared to 49.50 lakh hectares during the same period last year. On the other hand, oilseeds were cultivated in about 140.43 lakh hectares this year as compared to 115.08 lakh hectares during the same period last year. The total sowing area is 575.13 (last year 521.25) hectares.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, this year rice has been grown in 115.64 hectares (last year 95.78) hectares, pulses in 62.32 hectares (last year 49.50) hectares, Srianna and coarse grains in 97.64 hectares (last year 104.99) hectares, oilseeds in 140.43 hectares (last year 115.08) hectares, sugarcane in 57.68 (last year 56.86) hectares, jute and fiber (mesta) crops in 5.63 hectares (last year 6.02) hectares and cotton in 95.79 hectares (last year 93.02) hectares.
Among pulses, Arhar (pigeon pea) was grown in 28.14 hectare (last year 9.66), Urad dal in 13.90 (last year 12.75) hectare, Moong dal in 15.79 (last year 19.57) hectare, Kulthi in 0.12 (last year 0.12) hectare and other pulses were grown in 4.37 (last year 7.40) hectare.
Shri Anna Jowar is grown in 7.39 (previous year 8.64) hectares, Bajra in 28.32 (previous year 50.09) hectares, Ragi in 1.20 (previous year 1.17) hectares, Small Millet in 1.87 (previous year 1.27) hectares and Maize in 58.86 (previous year 43.84) hectares.
Among oilseeds, groundnut has been grown in 28.20 hectare (last year 28.27) hectare, soybean in 108.10 (last year 82.44) hectare, sunflower in 0.51 (last year 0.34) hectare, sesame in 3.21 (last year 3.59) hectare, niger seed in 0.20 (last year 0.02) hectare, castor in 0.16 (last year 0.39) hectare and other oilseeds in 0.05 (last year 0.04) hectare.
