Hamas chief Ismail Haniyya was hanged in Iran's capital Tehran on Wednesday morning. However, Hamas has blamed Israel for Haniyya's murder. Now it is planning to take revenge from Haniyya. After Haniyya's death, Hamas's second most powerful senior leader Khaled Mashaal may take command of the organization.

According to information, Hamas may appoint Khalid Mashal as its chief. Khalid Mashal was born on 28 May 1956 near Ramallah in the West Bank. At the age of 15, he joined the Sunni Islamic Brotherhood of Egypt. In a magazine, Khalid Mashal described Israel as a threat.

Khaled Mashaal was the head of Hamas before Ismail Haniyeh

Khaled Mashal has also been a teacher. In 1992, the Political Bureau of Hamas was established and Mashal was one of its founding members. Mashal became the head of Hamas' Political Bureau in 1996 and stepped down in 2017. After Mashal's death, Ismail Haniyeh became the head of Hamas.

Khadel Mashal, 68, has been operating since exile. From 2004 to 2012, he ran the group from the Syrian capital, Damascus. He now lives in both Qatar and the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Khaled Mashaal once said that I am one of the founders of the organization, I have been with the organization since day one. I have been a part of Hamas before the official announcement of the formation of Hamas in 1987. Hamas advocates the independence of Palestine as a whole. But Palestine is ready for a state on the 1967 border without recognising Israel and giving it any rights.

Khalid Mashal also survived Israel's poison

Khaled Mashaal is on Israel's radar. In 1997, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered him to be killed. An Israeli agent injected poison into him outside his office in Amman, Jordan.

This fatal Israeli attack on Khaled Mashal enraged the then King Hussein of Jordan. He demanded that Israel hang the person who poisoned Mashal and send the antidote so that Mashal could be cured. He threatened Israel that if Israel did not do so before midnight, they would break Jordan's peace treaty with Israel.

According to Jordan, Andidot was sent to Israel and Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was also freed. However, Israel killed Yassin in Gaza just seven years later. Although in exile, Mashal represented Hamas in meetings with international governments. Israel imposed a travel ban on the rest of Hamas leaders, but Mashal, who lives in exile, was spared. He is the main face of Hamas' foreign policy.

Controversy in India over Khalid Mashal

Controversy has erupted in India over Khalid Mashad. He was addressing an online rally organised by the Kerala Youth Movement in support of Palestinians on October 27 last year. Meanwhile, Mashal said that the world should support Palestinians in liberating the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Israel and protecting them from Israeli terror. Kerala BJP chief Surendran was angered by the Hamas leader's participation in the online rally. And he demanded that legal action be taken against the organisers.
