Dehradun, June 26 (HS). Due to strong opposition from environmentalists, it has been decided not to cut trees in Khalanga Reserve Forest for the drinking water project. The Drinking Water Corporation has left this place. Instead, land has been identified in Kanar Katan village near Maldevta.
Recently, environmentalists came out in protest after marking trees in Khalanga Reserve Forest for the drinking water project of Song Dam. About 2000 trees were to be cut here. Amid heavy opposition, the Drinking Water Corporation has given up its claim on this land. After the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, now the Drinking Water Corporation has marked the place of Kanar Katan village in Dehradun. It has been told that the transfer of forest land in the area will be done soon. A drinking water project worth Rs 524 crore will be built in the Song Dam project worth about Rs 3000 crore. For this, a reserve ware will be built at a high place near the Song Dam. The Drinking Water Corporation needs seven hectares of land. In this, a 150 MLD water treatment plant will be built on 4.2 hectares of land. Drinking water will be supplied to 60 wards of the capital from Kanar village.
Deepak Nautiyal, Executive Engineer of Drinking Water Corporation, said that soon a survey of this place will be done in collaboration with the Forest Department. Now DPR will be prepared accordingly, through which the drinking water project will be prepared.
Chief Forest Conservator of Uttarakhand Dhananjay Mohan said that a joint field inspection will be done soon. After that the whole situation will become clear.
