KGMU dentists are also installing artificial eyes

Lucknow, 01 March (HS). The Department of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, King George's Medical University carries out work to correct facial deformities at low cost. Even the doctors of prosthodontics department fit artificial eyes.

Dr. Puran Chand, Head of the Department of Prosthodontics, KGMU, told Hindusthan Samachar that Eye Prosthesis is an artificial eye. It is made from such materials that it looks like a real eye. The pupil of this artificial eye also moves, but is not visible.

Dr. Puran Chand said that Maxillofacial Prosthesis is the process of making artificial substitutes to replace parts of the face, i.e. parts of the palate, ears, eyes or nose.

An international workshop is being conducted by the Department of Prosthodontics and Crowns and Bridges of KGMU and Mahidol University. More than 100 dentists from about 15 states of the country are participating in this workshop.

On Friday, Dr. Thirthavaj Srithavaj explained about the natural reconstruction of facial deformities. Dr. Nathdhanai explained the basics of prostheses and Dr. Binit Shrestha talked about prostheses like implant retained eyes.

The workshop was conducted in three sessions which taught making of eye prostheses which included iris staining, wax pattern of eye prostheses and silicone packing with staining.

The participants learned about the new technology used in biocompatible materials and their application methods through this workshop.

Dr. Puran Chand said that more patients in India should get the benefit of advanced treatments like Implant Retained Eye Prosthesis. For this we need more number of trained prosthodontists and hence such teaching programs should be organized in different parts of the country.

Our primary goal is to provide low cost and world class medical care to the common Indian citizens.

Dr. Suneet Jurail emphasized that such workshops should be organized frequently to keep pace with the growing technologies and upgrade the current knowledge of our doctors.

Dr. Balendra Pratap Singh, Dr. Raghubar Dayal Singh, Dr. Bhaskar Aggarwal and Dr. Shuchi Tripathi helped in training the participating physicians.
