On the occasion of Vande Bharat Train Operation Program in Prayagraj, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya has written a letter to the Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnav, with the aim of making rail transport more accessible, convenient and effective for the people of Prayagraj and surrounding areas. Keeping in mind the needs of railway passengers, regional connectivity, business activities, tourism and convenience of the general public, Shri Maurya has requested to consider these proposals sympathetically and take necessary action as per rules.

The Deputy Chief Minister has requested to run the Prayagraj-Mumbai Duronto Express daily, to operate the Prayagraj-Ahmedabad Superfast Express three days a week, to start a direct train from Prayagraj to Goa via Pune-Miraj and to regularize the Prayagraj-Dadri special train. Along with this, a demand has been made to ensure stoppage of 24 trains which are currently deprived of stoppage including Sealdah and Agartala Rajdhani Express at Prayagraj Junction. Shri Maurya has suggested to operate Patna-Vasco da Gama Express three days a week and increase the quota in it, to give stoppage of Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express at Aligarh and to operate Vibhuti Express from Subedarganj instead of Rambagh and to increase it to 24 coaches. A request has also been made to provide stoppage of Saryu Express at Dayalpur station and extension of both Vande Bharat trains from Varanasi to Ranchi and Deoghar to Prayagraj Rambagh.

Keeping in mind the long-term transport needs of the region, the Deputy Chief Minister has proposed to connect the Naini-Prayagraj rail bridge by making it two-tier by road, bring all the railway stations of Prayagraj under North Central Railway and add ‘Prayagraj’ in the names of Jhusi, Karchana and Bamrauli. He has also requested to change the name of Subedarganj railway station to ‘Prayagraj Cantt’. Shri Maurya said that Prayagraj is a very important center from religious, cultural, educational and economic point of view. With the expansion of rail facilities, passengers will get better connectivity, transportation will become easier and the development of the area will gain new momentum.
