Kerala student's suicide case handed over to CBI

Thiruvananthapuram: On February 18, student J.S. Siddharthan's body was found. The family of the deceased student alleged that he was ragged by other students, including a worker of the Students Federation of India, the student wing of the CPI(M). The case has been handed over to CBI as the police report also revealed that the deceased had committed suicide due to beating and anger.

According to the report submitted by Kerala Police to CBI, Siddharthan was attacked continuously for 29 hours by his senior students.

Siddharthan was forced to commit suicide after being physically and mentally tortured. In this case, CBI has registered an FIR against 20 accused.

Siddharthan, a second-year Bachelor of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry student, was beaten with a belt and his face disfigured between 9 am on February 16 and 2 pm on February 17. Due to the shock of this incident, he committed suicide between 12:30 and 2:00 am on the night of 18 February.

The student's family alleged that the state government tried to influence the CBI investigation by not handing over files and destroying evidence. NDA candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat Rajiv Chandrashekhar has assured the student's family of a CBI investigation soon.
