Kejriwal granted interim bail only for election campaign

New Delhi: There is an atmosphere of Lok Sabha elections in the country. The three phases of voting have ended and now the fourth phase of voting is to be held after two days on Monday, in such a situation, the Supreme Court has granted interim conditional bail to Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 for the election campaign. However, along with this, the Supreme Court has banned Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal from visiting the CM office and signing government documents. Also, he has been ordered to surrender on June 2.

Nearly 50 days after his arrest on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise duty policy scam in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by the Supreme Court for 21 days with certain conditions, according to which Kejriwal will get bail. Will not be able to perform his duties as Chief Minister during the bail period. Furthermore, the Supreme Court clarified that Kejriwal has been granted interim bail for election campaigning, and the merits of the case have not yet been considered.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta, while granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, said that he has not been given any special facilities as a leader. Lok Sabha elections are the most important event of this year. Lakhs of voters will cast their votes to elect the government of this country for the next five years. Lok Sabha elections provide vitality to the country's democracy. Keeping in mind the importance of Lok Sabha elections, we reject the argument given by the prosecution that granting bail will benefit the leaders, the bench said. It is in an advantageous position compared to the common citizens of this country. Arvind Kejriwal is the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the National Party. The bench said that, certainly, the charges leveled against him are serious, but he has not been convicted yet. He has no criminal history. They are not a threat to society. The investigation of the present case is pending since August 2022. Kejriwal was arrested on 21 March 2024. More importantly, the legality of the arrest has also been challenged before this court and the final decision is awaited. Therefore he is granted interim bail. Along with this, the Supreme Court also ordered Kejriwal to pay Rs 50 thousand. A bond of Rs 50,000 was approved.

While Arvind Kejriwal was granted interim bail on Friday, his wife Sunita Kejriwal called the order a 'victory for democracy'. Sunita Kejriwal wrote on social media platform X, Jai Hanumanji, this is the victory of democracy. This is the result of prayers and blessings of millions of people. Thank you very much.

On the other hand, after being released from jail, Arvind Kejriwal thanked the public. He said, first of all I thank Hanumanji. I said, I will come out right now. I have come, all of you have only one statement that everyone will have to work together to save the country from tyranny. I am fighting against oppression. 140 crore people will have to struggle against tyranny.
