Karachi, 10 October (HIST). Fugitive and controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has been honored by Pakistan's Karachi University. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree. He was awarded this degree by Kamran Tesori, Chancellor of the University and Governor of Sindh Province.
According to ARY News Channel, Naik is currently on a state visit to Pakistan. He will address public functions in several cities including Lahore and Islamabad till October 28. He has met senior government officials including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Governor Tesori praised Dr. Naik's participation in debates on Islamic topics and expressed hope for his continued dedication to the propagation of Islam.
The Consul General, Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission, University officials and faculty members were present at the convocation ceremony. In recognition of Dr. Naik's service to Islam, the Syndicate of Karachi University approved conferring an honorary degree on him.
