Dholpur, 3 August (HS). Deep faith in Lord Bholenath in the mind. Kanvad filled with holy Ganga water on the shoulder and the chant of Bam-Bam resonating in the finja. This is the scene seen these days with the presence of Kanwadis on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway passing through Dholpur city. There is an old tradition of bringing Kanvad in Dholpur district and the surrounding Chambal region, which is called the Singh Dwar of eastern Rajasthan along with Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Devotees feel fulfilled by anointing Lord Bholenath with Ganga water brought from Ganga Tirthas with Kanvad.

As soon as the month of Sawan begins, the Kanwariyas set out to please Lord Shiva. In the month of Sawan, these devotees offer Gangajal to Lord Shiva. On the occasion of Sawan, Lord Bholenath is being worshipped in Shiva temples. As soon as the month of Sawan begins, the Kanwariyas are returning from Haridwar and other pilgrimage places. The Kanwariyas are offering Gangajal to Lord Shiva with Kanwad at the Shiva temples located in the district and nearby areas. The tradition of bringing Kanwad is years old in many districts including Dholpur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Karauli and Sawaimadhopur coming under Eastern Rajasthan and in the neighboring Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This is the reason why these days the hustle and bustle of Kanwariyas is being seen on other highways including Agra Mumbai National Highway.
