
Banu Mushtaq International Booker Award: Indian writer, lawyer and activist Banu Mushtaq has created history by winning the International Booker Award for his book Heart Lamp. Heart Lamp is the first book written in Kannada which has been awarded the Booker Prize. Deepa Bhashti translated this book into English.
Heart lamps have been selected from 6 books enrolled from around the world for the Booker Prize. Heart Lamp is the first short story collection to receive this award. Deepa Bhasthi also became the first Indian translator to win the award for this book.
Banu Mushtaq and Deepa Bhasthi were awarded the award at a ceremony held at Tate Modern, London on Tuesday. Both received a prize of 50,000 pounds. Which will be distributed equally between the writer and the translator.

Heart lamp reflects the difficult life of South Indian women. In which Banu Mushtaq has ironically presented the difficulties of Muslim women living in patriarchal society. He wrote 50 such stories in three decades between 1990 and 2023. Deepa Bhashthi chose 12 of them and translated them.
