Guwahati, 28 September (Hindustan Reporter). Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 92 stations under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are being redeveloped with world-class modern equipment and facilities. Additionally, Rs 10,369 crore has been allocated in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects to enhance rail facilities in this zone. Kaliyaganj railway station in North Bengal, which is one of the important stations under Katihar division of Pusire, is undergoing a significant makeover under this scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 24.87 crore.

Pusire CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Saturday that Kaliyaganj railway station serves wide areas of North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. About 62 per cent overall physical progress has been achieved for various ongoing and proposed redevelopment works in the station. Recently, a remarkable achievement has been achieved with the completion of all physical works of 12 meter wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Kaliaganj station. This modern FOB will enhance safety as well as mobility of passengers, having a robust infrastructure with ergonomic design to accommodate future infrastructure expansion. Additionally, additional works are underway for the redevelopment of the station relating to passenger platform shed, platform surfacing and station façade decorated with local art and cultural artefacts. This upgraded station will have improved building structure, better circulating area with comfortable seating arrangements for passengers, modern lifts and escalators to provide easy connectivity in the station premises. The new station will also have an additional entrance, which is under development.

Such achievements reflect PUC's commitment towards improving the travel experience of passengers with quality and efficiency, which will be seen in these renovated stations. Apart from the FOB, the station will also feature other additional passenger amenities (including for physically challenged passengers) and structures, which will modernize the entire façade of the station complex. The station premises will be provided with adequate lighting including signage for completely safe and easy access for every category of passengers.

The upgradation of this station will create new dimensions like easy travel for passengers, business opportunities and new employment. The upgraded station will act as a hub of socio-economic activities in the region, promoting both connectivity and economic growth.
