Ranchi, September 21 (HS). The central government has appointed the Chief Justices of the High Courts of eight states. Justice MS Ramachandra Rao has been appointed the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand. He will replace Justice Dr. BR Sarangi. The Supreme Court Collegium had proposed to make Justice Rao the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, serving as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, to the Jharkhand High Court on July 11, 2024. This appointment will fill the long-vacancies of the post of Chief Justice in the Jharkhand High Court.
Currently, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad is serving as the acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Earlier, the Jharkhand government had filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the central government over the delay in the appointment of the Chief Justice of the state's High Court. The petition said that the absence of the Chief Justice has significantly affected the administration of justice in Jharkhand.
Mamidanna Satyaratna Ramachandra Rao (born 07 August 1966) is currently the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. He is a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Telangana High Court. He has also served as Acting Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.
