Justice Abhijit Ganguly announces resignation

Kolkata, 03 March (HS). Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijeet Ganguly has created a stir in Bengal politics. He was scheduled to retire on August 10 this year. But, before that, he will retire from the post of High Court judge next Tuesday (March 5). Justice Abhijit Ganguly announced his resignation on Sunday (March 3). But why there is an uproar in the political arena due to the resignation of a judge? The main reason for this is the timing of his resignation. He is resigning just before the Lok Sabha elections. Secondly, in the last few years, he has been seen repeatedly taking charge against the Mamata Banerjee government. Hence there is speculation that he will resign and join politics.

Former Justice Ashok Ganguly said that the Constitution of India has given judges the right to resign. He said, “Article 217-1 of the Constitution provides the right to resignation of judges. For this, the serving judges will have to apply by writing a letter to the President of the country in their own hand.”

Justice Abhijit Ganguly said that he will resign on Tuesday by writing a letter to the country's President Draupadi Murmu. Apart from this, he will write a letter to the judge of Calcutta High Court and the Chief Justice of the country and inform about his resignation.

However, he did not give any indication as to which party Justice Ganguly would join after resigning from the post of judge.
