In Jharkhand, which is becoming infamous as a hub of cyber crime, online fraudsters have adopted a very clever and new tactic to loot the hard-earned money of innocent people. Till now you must have heard about cases of OTP or bank fraud, but this time cyber criminals made a girl their victim just through a simple file sharing. This new and modern type of digital fraud has alerted the police administration and cyber cell as well.
Phone hacked just by downloading an unknown file
According to the information, cyber criminals had sent a tempting or important looking file on the social media or messaging app of the victim girl. As soon as the girl clicked on that unknown file and downloaded and shared it on her smartphone, the complete control of her phone went to the hackers remotely. Cyber experts believe that this file was not an ordinary document, but a dangerous malware or spyware APK file, which stole all the sensitive data of the girl’s phone in the background without being detected.
Girl’s bank account becomes empty in the blink of an eye
As soon as they got access to the phone, cyber criminals took over the girl’s banking apps, passwords and messaging system. After this, all the money linked to the girl’s bank account was transferred to other fake accounts in the blink of an eye. The surprising thing is that during this time the girl could not even get any alert or OTP, because the hackers had already diverted the OTP to themselves through the message forwarding system. By the time the girl understood something, her account was completely cleared.
Cyber cell’s warning: Do not make this mistake even by mistake
After this unique case came to light, the Cyber Crime Cell of Jharkhand Police has issued a serious advisory for smartphone users across the state. Police officials have clearly said that do not download or further share any PDF, APK or any other suspicious file received from any unknown number or social media handle without checking it. Also, always install apps on your phone from the official Google Play Store and always stop downloading from unknown sources.
