Junior doctors' strike in West Bengal starts today, the most important of the six demands is 'a judicial inquiry into the death of the trainee female doctor'

Kolkata, August 12 (HS). The incident of the death of a female trainee doctor (second year medical student) under suspicious circumstances at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has become a big issue. Junior doctors of government and private hospitals in the state have announced a strike from Monday in protest against this incident. This will have a huge impact on health services in the state.

The strike was announced at a General Body (GB) meeting held at Kolkata Medical College on Sunday. Representatives from a total of 12 hospitals in the state attended the meeting and put forth six major demands. The strike will continue until these demands are met. These demands are as follows:

1. There should be a judicial inquiry into the incident and the culprits should be given severe punishment.

2. Transparency in the investigation should be ensured.

3. All the officers of RG tax and ACP of police post should be removed from their posts.

4. Kolkata Police will have to apologize for the excesses committed by them on the agitating students.

5. Appropriate compensation should be given to the family of the deceased female doctor.

6. Workplace safety should be ensured in all hospitals.

Representatives of junior doctors from RG Kar, NRS, Kolkata Medical, National Medical, SSKM, KPC, Peerless, Ruby, RN Tagore, and Shishu Mangal Hospital were present in this meeting. A protest march has also been called from College Square to RG Kar at 4 pm on Monday. It is noteworthy that the body of a female trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College on Friday. It is alleged that she was raped and then murdered. Police have arrested a person in this case.
