Junior doctors are protesting outside the health department headquarters for the fifth consecutive day, spending their nights on the road | News India

Kolkata, September 14 (HS). The agitation of junior doctors in the state is getting more intense with the adamant attitude of the government. The doctors have been sitting on the roads for five consecutive days in front of the headquarters of the state health department. They have spent four nights on the roads and once again on Saturday morning, the echo of slogans against the state government can be heard near the headquarters of the health department in Salt Lake. Continuous rain has started since Friday afternoon which is continuing till Saturday morning but the morale of the doctors is not decreasing. The junior doctors continued their protest in front of the health building despite heavy rain. The police is also stationed by barricading the area around.

After the talks between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and junior doctors failed on Thursday evening, the doctors have sent an email to President Draupadi Murmu demanding her intervention in the matter. The agitators have also sent a copy of the email to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. However, no response has been received from Rashtrapati Bhavan yet.

Here, on Thursday, when the doctors remained adamant and did not participate in the talks with the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee made it clear that she would not participate in the meeting now. On Friday, no invitation was sent to the doctors by the government for talks.

What do junior doctors say?

Junior doctors have been protesting in front of Swasthya Bhavan since Tuesday evening. After the meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee failed on Thursday, the agitating junior doctors decided to continue the protest. They are demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner, Secretary of Health Department, Secretary of Health Education Director. Along with this, they are demanding identification and punishment of the culprits of Abhaya and additional security at the workplace.
