The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the cases of alleged rigging and paper leak in the Combined Graduate Level Preliminary and Main Competitive Examination (JSSC CGL) of the much talked about Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) in the state, has significantly increased the scope of its action. Taking a huge step in this high-profile case, the investigating agency has arrested four suspected candidates who themselves succeeded in that examination and made it to the merit list. After the arrest of these four, there has been a stir among the administrative circles and student organizations of Jharkhand, because the candidates who had dreamed of getting a job after passing the examination, now seem to be directly trapped in the web of this big fraud. According to official information, the arrested accused include Deepak Kumar, Vijay Kumar Tiwari and Anand Kumar Singh, who are mainly residents of Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, while the fourth accused is Umesh Kumar Rai who was currently living in Bokaro district and carrying out his activities. All of them have been caught by the special team of CID on the basis of long interrogation and technical evidence. Initial investigation has revealed that these candidates had passed this prestigious examination not on the basis of their own hard work, but with the connivance of solver gangs and examination mafias. The police is now trying to get them to reveal how they gained access to the paper leak gang and how much huge money was paid to the middlemen for this.
The history of JSSC CGL examination in Jharkhand has been surrounded by controversies and irregularities since the beginning. Since the completion of the examination, complaints were being received continuously that the question papers were leaked even before the examination and the answers were made available to certain people illegally. After the increasing uproar and massive protests by the students, considering the seriousness of this entire episode, the responsibility of investigation was handed over to the SIT of the Special Investigation Department of Jharkhand Police i.e. CID. When the team started examining the documents, digital footprints and records of the examination centers related to this case, many shocking layers were revealed. During the investigation, it was firmly revealed that some big agencies involved in the conduct of this examination and their representatives had internally sold the entire system like a syndicate.
While tracing the links of this huge racket, CID has already made several high-profile arrests, which has expanded the scope of this scam to the national level. Recently, CID had arrested Somansh Prakash and his close associate Rahul Kumar from Delhi, who were involved in the examination conduct. During interrogation, it was revealed that the Kolkata agency which was given the responsibility of conducting the examination had flouted the rules and sublet its rights to another firm. Apart from this, links of Abhay Tiwari, his wife Sushma Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari, who were already arrested as the main accused, were also found to be connected to the same network. Only after connecting all these links, CID was able to reach the syndicate through which a whole game was being played to make ineligible candidates successful in the examination and reach the position of officer.
Such breaches in government job examinations not only play with the future of common and hard-working students, but also puts a big question mark on the transparency of the entire administrative system. Amidst the government decisions of canceling the JSSC CGL exam and the subsequent legal maneuvers in the courts, this swift action of the CID is a clear message that the arm of the law is very long. Successful candidates who were proud of their success are now behind bars and both their degrees and jobs are in danger. SIT is now trying to find out who is the mastermind of this entire syndicate by taking these four accused on remand and to which other states apart from Jharkhand, the links of this paper leak gang are spread. There is every possibility of some more big revelations in this case in the coming days, due to which legal action may be taken against many more big faces.
